Interior Designer Spotlight: Studio McGee

When we started our Instagram account (@theinspiredabode), the goal was to share images from some of our favorite brands, designers, and décor blogs while studying for an interior design diploma course. Throughout the past few months, we’ve developed many style crushes on some incredibly talented designers. Perhaps our absolute favorite is Studio McGee – a husband-and-wife duo who started at their kitchen table just two years ago and now have a big office, stellar following, and clients from LA to New York.

They're also having a pretty amazing year – they just launched a web series on their YouTube channel that I'm OBSESSED with, have just opened their own shop where they sell pillows, lighting, rugs, accessories, furniture, art & textiles, and they're continuing to grow their business with clients all over the country. I love their bright, airy style that brings pattern, color, and light into any room.

Take a look at some of our favorite Studio McGee projects in the slideshows below! For more from Studio McGee, be sure to check out their website, follow along on Instagram, subscribe to their YouTube channel, and browse their online shop McGee & Co.!

Entryway

We feel like an entryway is one of the spaces in a home that's easily forgotten when it comes to decorating; however, a beautiful entryway is essential for welcoming guests and making them feel at home right away. Even if you don't have a foyer, a console table or dresser with a mirror above it is the perfect foundation, and you can make it your own by adding a bouquet of fresh flowers, photos of your family, or a decorative bowl to hold keys! The entryway in Studio McGee's Rangeview Reno project is simple, yet absolutely lovely.

Dining Room

There's something we adore about a bright dining room with upholstered chairs and an incredible lighting fixture. This large space from Studio McGee's Rangeview Reno project also had room for a credenza and an awesome built-in shelving unit to display a few of the clients' favorite things.

Kitchen

We think it's everyone's dream to someday have a house with an absolutely gorgeous kitchen. Even people who don't cook can appreciate the beauty of an open kitchen with plenty of counter space and cabinets. One of my favorite kitchen designs of all time comes from Studio McGee's Pacific Palisades project. The dark wood floors, white cabinetry, farmhouse apron sink, and island with bar stools are incredible and we know for a fact that we would LOVE cooking tacos, pizza, and all of my favorite meals in here – this space would even make doing dishes enjoyable!

Open Living & Dining Room

With the increased popularity of open living spaces, we're seeing more and more living and dining areas that are essentially in the same open space. The goal is to create a personality for each room that complements the other. Studio McGee's Lynwood Remodel project is the perfect example of this. They kept the curtains the same throughout, and incorporated white, blue, grey, and wood elements in both spaces to ensure they looked cohesive.

Guest Bedroom & Bathroom

The guest room at Studio McGee's Pacific Palisades project would definitely ensure return guests. We would never want to leave. The bright room with a coastal-inspired color palette is extremely welcoming and the adjoining guest bathroom is just as lovely.

Master Bedroom & Bathroom

While the master bedroom at Studio McGee's Pacific Palisades project is wonderful – full of pattern, texture, and comfortable textiles, my favorite part is the master bathroom. We love how Studio McGee isn't afraid to mix colors, metals, and patterns – and this bathroom with a vintage rug in front of the free-standing bathtub and gleaming countertop is brave and impressive! We would trade our current room/bathroom for this space immediately!

Whenever we’re looking for images to repost and share on Instagram, Studio McGee is one of our absolute go-to accounts. Their style blends feminine patterns, elegant finishes, and phenomenal texture to create harmonious spaces their clients can feel comfortable in. We’re constantly inspired by their work and hope to be just as successful, easy-going, and lighthearted with our own clients!
