April Five Things // From The Inspired Abode

We’re back with this month’s edition of Five Things after a one month hiatus thanks to the new coronavirus. We honestly didn’t have a whole lot to share for the month of March apart from cancelled plans. Now that we’re in a new month and social distancing has become the new normal, it’s been much easier to live in the moment and not obsess over the latest news. All of that to say, we do hope everyone is staying home, healthy & as positive as can be.

Take a look below to see what we’ve been loving this month & what we’re looking forward to – and please do share your own monthly musings with us!

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING…

We’re a little late to the game, but we’ve been loving Succession on HBO. We watched both seasons in just a few weeks. Some people that we’ve recommended it to think it’s boring, but if you love family drama and business, you’ll be a fan! We’re anxiously awaiting season 3!

We also finally hopped on the Ozark bandwagon & are embarrassed to say how quickly we went through each season. It’s Breaking Bad meets any Jason Bateman show or movie. We don’t want to give too much away, so just watch the first episode & be ready to get hooked.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO…

Being home more has helped us try to listen to more music. We’re still big fans of Ashley Kane of Brunch on Chestnut’s “Wedding Dinner” Spotify playlist – it’s full of classics + new favorites we love & some great covers! One of our editors also just hopped on the vinyl bandwagon and bought a very reasonably priced record player, so we’ll be listening to more and more throwback tunes once that arrives!

WHAT WE’RE READING…

Our book club read Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens this month, and we were so excited to get started because we’ve had this book sitting on our shelves for a few months now! We had heard such great things & the book is on the top of the charts as well as featured on a number of must-read lists. We’ll admit, it is a bit difficult to get into. It doesn’t grab you from the very start but instead focuses on character building; however, it becomes quite the page turner from about page 180 through the end… so keep reading!

WHAT WE’RE EATING & DRINKING…

We recently tried the mushroom carnitas tacos from What’s Gaby Cooking & they were SO good!! We modified the recipe a bit by using crimini mushrooms in addition to oyster mushrooms because we couldn’t find as many oyster mushrooms as the recipe called for, but it was still delicious! We also forgot to buy jalapeños at the store for the magical green sauce recipe to pair with the tacos, so we opted to use the jalapeño sauce from Trader Joe’s along with our favorite hot sauce for an added kick of heat. Highly recommend if you’re looking to make the recipe a little easier & quicker!

We made our favorite chipotle, goat cheese & tempeh (or chicken) wrap for lunches this week and fell in love all over again. Try it for yourself by following this simple recipe!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN EYEING…

Since the shelter-in-place order, we have been fully embracing loungewear, letting our hair air-dry, and makeup-free days. One silver lining to all of this? It has done wonders for our skin & hair! We haven’t put on a pair of jeans except to go to the grocery store, since that has become the event of the week, and we are fighting the urge not to purchase every cute set of loungewear we see.

Since we’ve been switching off wearing different pairs of leggings and sweats, we wanted to up our top game. One of our editors just bought this comfortable, seamless ribbed bra top in black, but she will honestly probably buy about 3-5 more colors before quarantine is over. Can’t wait for it to arrive just in time for the warm weather later this month! Also, for when you feel like dressing up a bit (even while staying at home) while also staying comfortable, she LOVES this slip dress & has it in two colors: black for future date nights & black floral for a summery daytime look!

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO…

One of our editors booked a trip this past summer with plans to travel all across Italy in early May, but we have all come to terms with the fact that the trip will need to be postponed. Rather than sulk about the soon-to-be cancelled trip, she is planning out Italian recipes & cocktails to make that week that will help ease the pain – including homemade pasta, pizza & of course Aperol spritz. We’re looking forward to sharing them with you here and on our Instagram stories.

We’d love to know what you’ve enjoyed watching, listening to, eating, drinking & what you’ve been eyeing and are looking forward to. Let us know in the comments section or send us a DM on Instagram!

Don’t forget to follow us on Pinterest to see what inspires us daily! Also, be sure to check out the two-week vegan meal plan we put together & invest in new home décor from Studio McGee since we all are spending so much time at home anyway.
