Wedding Diaries: Sunset-Toned Destination Wedding in Cabo
Planning a wedding?! Let us take a moment to extend our sincerest congratulations! We hope you enjoy the process and that you’re inspired by Brooke’s sunset-toned, destination wedding at all-inclusive resort, Paradisus Los Cabos, in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Maybe you’re here looking for design inspiration, or maybe you’re hoping to plan an event similar to this one in Cabo. If you are thinking about planning a destination wedding in Cabo, we highly recommend working with a local wedding planner. We had an amazing experience working with Gabi and Emmanuel at Vivid Occasions, and we were so impressed with the quality of their service, as well as the services of the vendors they introduced us to. We’ll link to all of our vendors at the bottom of this blog post! As cliche as it sounds, our wedding day was even more perfect than we imagined!

set the tone with your wedding invitations
Brooke & her now husband had a lot of fun with their wedding invitations. Minted made it SO easy to envision the end result throughout the process and also work with in-house designers to customize the colors, fonts & layout to turn the pre-existing design into something they could call their own. Plus, the foil-pressed invitation options provided the perfect pop of formality and luxury that they were looking for. Although the wedding décor hadn’t been confirmed yet, Brooke & David knew they wanted to incorporate sunset tones – think burnt reds, mustard yellows, and neutral colors. The colors on the invitation actually ended up inspiring some of the design & décor choices later on.
While your wedding is likely the most formal event you’ll throw, we encourage you to stay true to who you are! If you’re a more casual couple, let that show by the words you use throughout your invitation suite. For example, rather than using “will attend” and “with regrets” on your RSVP cards, use phrases like “I’ll be there!” and “sad to miss it.” Your wedding website is another great place to show off your personalities and set the tone for what guests can expect at the wedding.
Unfortunately, the “Bauhaus Shapes” wedding invitation suite design we used on Minted is no longer sold, but this is a similar option!
sunset-toned ceremony décor and vibe
Since the wedding ceremony only runs about 30-minutes or less, Brooke & David decided to utilize a more simplistic design in order to better allocate wedding funds to other details that would be enjoyed for a longer period of time. Even so, the ceremony’s triangle arch was adorned with sunset-colored flowers matching the wedding party’s bouquets and boutonnieres. Bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses in differing shades of gold, while the groom and his groomsmen wore matching off-white, linen suits.
destination wedding cocktail hour favorites
Cocktail hour is typically Brooke’s favorite part of attending weddings, so they wanted to make sure it was a cocktail hour to remember. An acoustic guitarist played some of the couple’s favorite songs while guests mingled & the new Mr. and Mrs. had their wedding portraits taken on the beach during golden hour. Cocktail tables were covered with velvety burnt orange linens and topped with white hurricane pillar candles. Photos of the couple’s parents and grandparents on their wedding days were displayed on a table along with a guest book, in which guests were encouraged to take polaroid pictures and secure them alongside their messages. The couple’s signature cocktails made their first appearance – espresso martinis, spicy mezcal margaritas, and an Old Fashioned – and appetizers included potato & cheese croquettes, various taquitos, and empanadas.
sunset-toned reception décor
Guests found their seating assignments by making their way to a golden shelf of Champagne glasses topped with circular escort cards before moving to the reception area adjacent to the hotel pool. Light wooden tables were topped with a neutral, textured runner adorned with sunset-toned floral arrangements and votive candles in differing shapes and styles. Dark wooden chargers added contrast to the white ceramic plates, and the sunset colors were carried through the tablescape via yellow cloth napkins, burnt orange vintage-style goblets, and rose gold cutlery. A circular dance floor matching the wooden tone of the rectangular tables was positioned in the center of the reception area, all with a perfect view of the couple’s sweetheart table. After making the grand entrance at Mr. and Mrs., the couple shared their first dance to “Don’t Worry Baby” by The Brook & The Bluff. Before sitting down at their sweetheart table for dinner followed by dancing, Brooke’s husband surprised her by singing her favorite love song, “I Guess I’m In Love” by Clinton Kane, to her in front of their family & friends. It was a destination wedding weekend they will never forget!
